Who We Are

The Knights of Columbus is a global Catholic fraternal organization dedicated to serving our communities, supporting our church, and promoting the values of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. Founded in 1882 by Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney our organization has grown to include millions of members around the world.

The Knights of Columbus is the largest global Catholic fraternal organization dedicated to serving others and strengthening communities through charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. At Council 9404 in Bedford, we strive to embody these principles by making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals, families, and our community.

As a fraternal organization the Knights of Columbus has any fraternal benefits extended to members and their families.

Community Service and Outreach

Our commitment to service is exemplified through initiatives such as the Coats for Kids program, which provides new winter coats to needy children. This program ensures that no child faces the harsh winter months without adequate clothing, reinforcing our belief in the dignity and welfare of every child. We invite community members to join us in this mission through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness.

During the winter of 2025 – 2026, The Beford Council donated 216 new, winter costs to people in need. This was made possible with financial donations received from Parishioners. In previous years, with Council funds only, we were able to provide 72 coats.

In addition to clothing assistance, we engage in various outreach programs that address the diverse needs of our community. Our efforts range from providing food and shelter to supporting education and healthcare initiatives, demonstrating our dedication to improving the quality of life for all.

What We Do

We believe that community connection is vital for nurturing relationships among Parishioners and families. Our events, such as the Family Skate program offer opportunities for families of all ages to come together for fun and fellowship. These events foster bonds among community members while promoting a sense of belonging.

Annually, the knights at St. Ignatius parish prepare and provide a meal to guests at Hope Cottage.

Some of what we do includes

Our Knights of Columbus Crib Night brings together cribbage players of all skill levels for a friendly competition that encourages camaraderie. Free will offerings from this event contribute to our charitable projects, allowing us to support those in need while fostering a social atmosphere.

The Knights of Council 9404 award a bursary to a Parish high school graduate each year to support their continuing education. The Knights at the provincial level also award bursaries to high school graduates.

The Keep Christ in Christmas poster contest invites the children of the Parish to use their artistic talents to express their understanding of the meaning of Christmas. Prizes are awarded to contest participants in several age categories.

The Bedford Council hosts a weekly drop in for seniors on Monday afternoons in the Parish hall from 1 – 3 pm. Come and join in a game of cards, bring some sewing/knitting or just come for a chat!

Supporting Our Church and Faith

The Knights of Columbus play an essential role in supporting our Parish and enhancing our spiritual home. We assist with various church projects, including funding renovations, supporting youth programs, and organizing Parish events. Our commitment to faith and fellowship is reflected in every initiative we undertake.

Each year the Council hosts a Silver Rose prayer service for all parish and community members.

We provide each of our First Communion candidates with a rosary and out Confirmation candidates with a cross to help them with their faith journey.

Funding Support

Many of our activities require funding so we undertake a few fundraisers, and we are grateful to our Parishioners for their support. None of the money we raise is spent on our members: all of the money raised goes to run our programs in support of the Parish.

50/50 draws at Council meetings
Goodwill offerings at some Council events
In 2025 a significant fundraising activity was a Parish appeal to support the Coats for Kids program

Join the Knights of Columbus

You can join the Knights of Columbus by contacting any member or going to kofc.org/join. Use the promotion code BLESSEDMCGIVNEY.

As a member of the Knights of Columbus we do not ask anymore of you than what you choose to and are able to contribute. That could be an hour or two a year, perhaps helping with parking control at Christmas Eve masses, or helping set up the hall for a cribbage evening.

Council Meetings

Meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month in the Parish hall from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. followed by fellowship. Catholic men, age 18 or older are welcome to come to our meetings as our guests to learn firsthand about the Knights of Columbus.

You can always come out and help with our activities; you do not need to be a member to help out.
